The vent cap on the side of your house is the last barrier through which lint and moist air from the dryer must pass before being dispersed by the wind. Vent caps are easy to break, and some models frequently clog with lint or other debris. In either case, the reduction in air flow can affect your dyer's efficiency, driving up your energy costs and perhaps leading to a build-up of flammable lint in the vent pipes. You can do something about it, though, because vent caps are inexpensive and easy to replace.

Need to relocate a dryer vent. Siding is vinyl, dutch lap profile. Can someone point me to information on cutting the siding to install a vent block? I have the 2 piece vent and need to know what to do to cut the siding and attach the vent. We simply cut a 4' hole, just large enough for the dryer.
Follow the vent duct from the back of the dryer to the point where it goes through the outside wall. You may have to crawl through a basement or crawlspace to do this.

2
Locate the pipe clamp holding the duct to the metal pipe attached to the vent cap. Loosen the clamp with a screwdriver and separate the duct from the pipe.
3
Go outside the house and cut the caulk sealing the vent cap to the siding with a utility knife. Unscrew the screws holding the cap to the siding, then pull the cap away from the house. You may have to give it a little twist while you pull to break any caulking you didn't cut.
4
Cut the pipe of a new vent cap to the same length as the pipe on the old one with tin snips. Slide the new pipe into the hole in the siding, and rotate the cap until its opening is facing the ground.
5
Screw the new vent cap to the siding with galvanized screws, then caulk around the outside of the mounting flange with siliconized acrylic latex caulk.
6
Go inside the house and slide the vent duct over the pipe. Tighten the pipe clamp to hold the duct to the pipe.

Soffit vents are an important part of your house's heating and cooling system. These vents, also referred to as 'under-eave vents,' draw fresh, cool air up through the eaves to replace overheated, stagnant attic air that should filter out through the ridge vents. Soffit vents can be installed onto existing vinyl siding. The process of installing soffit vents to existing soffits involves marking and cutting a hole for the vent, inserting it into place, and fastening the vent with screws.Difficulty:ModerateInstructions Things You'll Need Tape measure Pencil Stud finder Cardboard Utility knife Drill Reciprocating saw Create a cardboard template an |

| Home & Garden | Vinyl siding is cost effective and you can install it right over some types of existing siding. While this is a beneficial option for homes with worn wood, fiberboard or other solid types of siding, it’s not a great idea to install new vinyl over existing vinyl siding. It’s doable, but you will have to remove the corners, the trim and the bottom piece of siding and shim those areas. If your vinyl siding isn’t as shiny and new as it once was and, despite your attempts to clean it, remains less than stellar, replacing it is a smart choice.
