Re: Lee Enfeild No 4 Mk1 Markings Post by The_Enigma » 29 Mar 2012, 15:46 In the future, with a bit of luck, i should be a position to purchase an active Lee Enfield No 4. No4 rifles were given a starting number that may be used to identify manufacturers, but again there was no set serial blocks. British No4 rifles were set up with a 5 digit serial number system with 1XXXX being allotted to Maltby, 2XXXX Fazakerley, 3XXXX BSA Shirley.
Lee Enfield No 4 Mk1 Sniper Rifle
I am looking for a correct Savage Enfield and found one marked U.S. Property but have a question concerning the serial number. On the left side of the receiver the only marks are the serial number OC36450 over a small letter 'B'. I thought Savage serial numbers had numbers , then the letter 'C' followed by additional numbers. On the butt stock, directly behind the trigger guard is a small letter B in a box that I assume is a Savage mark. The wood matches but the handguard is not grooved like other Savages I have seen. Could this rifle be a correct Savage with these differences from others I have looked at?
